NLC India Limited, formerly known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited, is nearing the completion of its first supercritical coal-based thermal power plant, Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd (NUPPL), located in Ghatampur Tehsil, Uttar Pradesh. This power plant, being constructed in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL), aims to address the growing electricity demand in India. Spanning an area of 1013.97 hectares, the NUPPL project is progressing steadily, with plans to commence operations by the end of the fiscal year 2023-24, as confirmed by Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLC India Limited.

The NUPPL power plant project obtained approval from the Government of India on July 27, 2016. The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Piyush Goyal, the former Union Minister of State for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy, and Mines (Independent Charge). Initially, the project was scheduled to be completed within 64 months from the date of approval, but due to various factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges, there have been delays in its progress. Nonetheless, efforts are underway to overcome these obstacles and ensure the timely completion of the power plant, contributing to the energy infrastructure of the region.
