New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal has taken a significant step towards bolstering India's self-reliance in coal production by issuing vesting orders for six commercial coal mines. This move aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and reflects the government's commitment to enhancing domestic coal production.

Out of these six mines, two are fully explored, while four are partially explored, collectively boasting a Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 7.00 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The geological reserves of these mines are estimated to be approximately 2,105.74 million tonnes.

Anticipating substantial economic contributions, the ministry projects an annual revenue of Rs 787.59 crore from these mines, with expected capital investments amounting to Rs 1,050 crore. The initiative is poised to create employment opportunities for 9,464 individuals, both directly and indirectly.

Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena commended the successful bidders for their achievements and urged prompt operationalization of these coal blocks. He assured the ministry's complete support in expediting necessary clearances to facilitate smooth operations.

With the issuance of these vesting orders, the total number of coal mines in the country now stands at 80, with a cumulative Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) reaching 151.50 MTPA. This significant development is expected to yield an annual revenue of Rs 23,596.75 crore for state governments and create employment for over 2 lakh individuals, reinforcing India's efforts towards achieving self-sufficiency in the coal sector.
