The Ministry of Commerce & Industries released the October 2023 data on the index of eight core industries, revealing a notable upsurge in the coal industry index. According to the Ministry of Coal's statement, the index soared to 18.4% (provisional) from 9.1% in April, marking a significant elevation to 172.6 points compared to the same period the previous year, which stood at 145.8 points.

Attributed to this surge is the substantial increase in dry fuel production during October, reaching 78.65 Million Tonnes (MT) compared to 66.32 MT in the corresponding month of the previous year.

The coal ministry emphasized that this impressive growth in the coal sector significantly contributed to the overall advancement of the eight core industries, highlighting the persistent efforts and initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Coal.
