In a significant stride for India's energy sector, coal production from captive and commercial coal mines surged in November 2023, exhibiting a robust 37% increase compared to the same period in 2022. This remarkable growth was accompanied by a staggering 55% rise in coal dispatch, marking a notable increase from the previous year's figures.

The exceptional surge in coal production and dispatch continued from April to November 2023, underscoring a substantial year-over-year growth of 24% and 31% respectively, compared to the corresponding period in the fiscal year 2022-23. The Non-Regulated Sector and Commercial coal mines particularly witnessed remarkable increases, recording growth rates of 101% and 98% respectively.

The ministry reaffirmed its dedication to achieving targeted coal production and dispatch levels, emphasizing their critical role in bolstering India's energy security and fostering economic growth.
