The Ministry of Coal, as the nominated authority, has issued vesting orders for 22 coal mines to successful bidders of coal blocks under the commercial coal mine auction held on 8th June 2023, according to a statement from the ministry. Out of these 22 coal mines, eleven mines fall under the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act of 2015, while the remaining come under the Mines & Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act of 1957.

Among the allocated mines, 16 have been fully explored, while the remaining six have only undergone partial exploration. The combined peak rated capacity (PRC) of these 22 coal mines amounts to 53 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The geological reserves of the six coal mines total 6,379.78 million tonnes. The allocated blocks are expected to generate an annual revenue of Rs 9,831 crore and attract a capital investment of Rs 7,929 crore. Additionally, they will directly and indirectly employ 71,467 individuals, as stated in the ministry's statement.

With the allotment of these mines, the ministry has now issued vesting orders for a total of 73 mines through commercial auctions, with a combined PRC of 149.304 MTPA. This is projected to result in an annual revenue of Rs 23,097.64 crore for state governments and create employment opportunities for approximately 201,847 individuals, both directly and indirectly.
