In August, South Africa's mining production, a crucial sector for the country, experienced a 2.5 percent year-on-year decline. The primary factors contributing to this decline were diamonds, manganese ore, and other metallic minerals, according to data from Statistics South Africa.

Notably, diamond production saw a substantial decrease of 54.6 percent in August, making it the leading negative contributor to the country's mining industry. Additionally, the production of manganese ore and other metallic minerals experienced drops of 7.9 percent and 17.6 percent, respectively, during the same month.

Over the three months ending in August, seasonally adjusted mining production in South Africa decreased by 2 percent compared to the previous three months. Gold production declined by 6.5 percent during this period, while the production of coal and manganese ore dropped by 2.8 percent and 6 percent, respectively, as reported by Statistics South Africa.
