State-owned power company NTPC has reported a significant 83% increase in coal production from its captive mines during the first half of the fiscal year 2023-24, compared to the same period the previous year. The company achieved coal production of 16.05 million metric tonnes (MMT) during H1 FY24, up from 8.76 MMT in H1 FY23 (April-September 2022). Additionally, NTPC's coal dispatch for H1 FY24 reached 17.20 MMT, marking a substantial 94% increase over the previous year's corresponding period.

NTPC has produced over 85 million metric tonnes (MMT) of coal from its four operational captive coal mines, including Pakri Barwadih and Chatt-Bariatu Coal Mines in Jharkhand, Dulanga Coal Mine in Odisha, and Talaipalli Coal Mine in Chhattisgarh. Operations have also commenced at the Kerendari mine in Jharkhand in April 2023, with coal production expected to start in the current fiscal year.

NTPC Ltd is India's largest integrated power utility, contributing 25% of the country's power requirements.
