Workers at South Africa's Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) have rejected the latest wage offer and will continue their strike, reports the main labor union at the port.

The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union members had lowered their demand to a one-year 7% basic salary increase along with a housing allowance. In contrast, RBCT, the largest coal export facility in Africa, offered a minimum 6% annual increase for three years.

RBCT has experienced a significant drop in shipped volumes, reaching the lowest level in decades, primarily due to operational issues at state-owned ports and rail operator Transnet. These problems include sabotage, cable theft, and aging equipment. Despite the ongoing strike, RBCT operations have not been affected.

Companies such as Glencore, Thungela Resources, and Exxaro Resources rely on RBCT for coal shipments.
