The Ministry of Coal is actively working towards ensuring transparency, prompt decision-making, and accelerated planning to achieve its ambitious goal of producing over 1 billion tonnes of coal this year.

In the current fiscal year, procurement through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has already reached an impressive Rs. 23,798 Crore as of September 14, 2023. This achievement surpasses the annual target for FY 2023-24, which was set at Rs. 21,325 Crore, and it was accomplished within the second quarter of the fiscal year. In FY 2022-2023, the target for procurement of Goods & Services through GeM, including the Ministry of Coal and its CPSEs, was Rs. 4,000 Crore. The actual achievement exceeded this target, reaching Rs. 4,278 Crore, representing a 107% achievement rate. This remarkable success was made possible through close collaboration between the GeM team and Coal India Ltd. (CIL) procurement team to resolve technical challenges.

Coal India Ltd. and its subsidiaries have played a significant role in GeM procurement, contributing Rs. 23,363 Crore as of September 14, 2023. This amount exceeds its target for FY 2023-24 by 17%, making Coal India Ltd. the leading CPSE in the country in GeM procurement.

Launched in August 2016, GeM aims to modernize the previous tender process and enhance transparency and integrity in government procurement through digitalization. Over the past seven years, the Ministry of Coal has been dedicated to this digital transformation effort.

The substantial achievements in procurement by the Ministry of Coal through GeM underscore the platform's effectiveness and efficiency in facilitating transparent and efficient procurement processes. The widespread adoption of GeM by various CPSEs of the Ministry of Coal further highlights its success in simplifying and improving the overall procurement environment.
