South Africa has received numerous offers from around the world to finance the expansion and strengthening of its power grid, aiming to ensure future energy security and alleviate the ongoing issue of load shedding, according to Electricity Minister Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa. As part of its transition from coal-fired power plants to renewable energy sources like wind and solar, the country is seeking investment in its power infrastructure.

During a weekly power grid update in Pretoria, Dr. Ramokgopa announced lower stages of load shedding for the coming week. He highlighted the upcoming transmission financing seminar, which will help streamline the process of dealing with offers from global funding and financing sources.

Dr. Ramokgopa stressed the importance of the Kusile Power Station in ending load shedding. He mentioned that nine individuals were recently arrested at the power station for alleged coal theft and fraud. He plans to visit the power station to receive a progress report and emphasized the significance of Kusile in adding much-needed megawatts to the grid, with units scheduled for maintenance and upgrades.

The government's efforts to secure financing for grid expansion align with South Africa's commitment to transitioning to cleaner energy sources and enhancing energy reliability in the face of ongoing power challenges.
