The NTPC Coal Mining Headquarters in Ranchi marked the 77th Independence Day with immense enthusiasm and a strong patriotic spirit. The event's Chief Guest, Shri MVR Reddy, Regional Executive Director (Coal Mining), raised the tricolor flag and paid tribute to the freedom fighters who played a crucial role in India's independence struggle. He highlighted the "Har Ghar Tiranga" initiative led by the Hon’ble Prime Minister as part of the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' to commemorate 76 years of Indian Independence this year.

Acknowledging the growing demand for power across the nation, Shri Reddy urged the Coal Mining Team to take shared responsibility in fulfilling the coal requirements of NTPC's thermal power stations. He noted that NTPC Group's installed capacity had expanded to 73,024 MW, encompassing 50 NTPC stations, with 26 of them being coal-based.

Shri Reddy underscored the importance of maintaining sustainable coal production from NTPC's captive mines to support the core power generation business with high-quality fuel at competitive prices. He informed that NTPC is currently operating from seven coal blocks, with an estimated peak-rated mine capacity of 71 MMTPA. NTPC's coal production in FY 2022-23 reached 23.20 MMT, reflecting a 65% increase from FY 2021-22. Notably, Q1 of FY 23-24 witnessed a record coal production of 8.59 MMT, a 101% increase compared to Q1 of FY 2022-23. The company has dispatched nearly 81 million tonnes of coal to its power plants.

Shri Reddy also shared NTPC Mining's future plans, including the incorporation of a wholly owned subsidiary, NTPC Mining Ltd. (NML). The Ministry of Coal, Government of India, has granted permission for transferring NTPC's coal mines to NML, and the asset transfer processes will follow.

During the event, meritorious awards were presented to ten employees of CMHQ for their exceptional contributions. Shri Reddy expressed his gratitude to CMHQ and project teams, senior colleagues, peers at NTPC, Ministry of Power, Ministry of Coal, various government ministries, state governments of Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and all stakeholders and associates.
