The government has reported that India's coal production for the fiscal year 2022-23 reached over 893 million tonnes, showing significant growth of about 58 percent compared to over 565 million tonnes in 2013-14. Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi provided this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today. He highlighted the substantial progress witnessed in coal production over the years.

Mr. Joshi also stated that according to the current import policy, coal falls under the Open General License category, allowing consumers to freely import coal from their preferred sources. He assured that there is no shortage of coal in the country, and the majority of the coal demand is fulfilled through domestic production.
