The government has decided to extend the deadline for registration of coal and lignite mines under the Star Rating program until July 25, according to an official statement.

The Star Rating policy, implemented by the government, aims to assess mines based on seven key parameters, including mining operations, environment-related factors, technology adoption, best mining practices, economic performance, rehabilitation & resettlement, worker-related compliance, and safety & security.

The Ministry of Coal released a statement saying, "The last date for registration and self-evaluation for Star Rating of coal and lignite mines has been extended from July 15 to July 25, 2023, in order to encourage greater participation and ensure accurate self-evaluation."

On May 30, 2023, a notification was issued for the registration of all coal and lignite mines for the Star Rating program for the financial year 2022-23. Subsequently, the Star Rating portal became accessible for registration on June 1, 2023, and the response has been positive, with 377 mines already registered on the portal as of July 14, 2023.
