Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi to Visit Dhanbad for Important BCCL Tour, Expected to Make Key Announcements

Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi is set to embark on a tour of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) in Dhanbad on Thursday. This tour holds significant importance for various reasons. Minister Joshi will arrive at Durgapur Airport around 10:30 am via a special flight from Delhi. He will then proceed to Dhanbad by road, reaching the destination by 12 noon. A Guard of Honor will be presented at the BCCL Headquarters, followed by a visit to Shaheed Chowk in Koyla Nagar to pay tribute to the martyred miners. The inauguration of Vishrantika will take place, along with a review meeting with BCCL officials at Koyla Bhavan, where the Jharia master plan will also be assessed. Several important decisions and announcements are anticipated during this visit.

In the afternoon, after lunch, Minister Joshi will visit the Taxmeen Innovation Hub of IIT, ISM. Subsequently, he will tour the fire-affected areas of Bansjoda, Katras, and Rajapur Rajput Basti. During this inspection, special attention will be given to the Anna fire patch located in the Kusunda area to gather information about coal production in the midst of the fire. In the evening, there will be a meeting with dignitaries at the hotel. On Friday morning, Minister Joshi will depart from Dhanbad for Durgapur Airport at 6:30 am.

In the first quarter of the current financial year, BCCL not only met its coal production target but also generated higher profits compared to the previous year. However, the exact profit figures have not been disclosed as the company is listed with SEBI. Coal India's overall production growth stands at a positive 9.92%. Nearly all subsidiaries, except NEC, have achieved positive production growth. BCCL leads with an impressive growth rate of 23.62%, making it the best-performing company within Coal India.

According to Coal India's data, BCCL has not only achieved positive growth but also produced 110% of its coal target in the current financial year (2023-24). Alongside BCCL, NCL (105.57%) and WCL (105.97%) have also met their production targets, while other subsidiaries of Coal India are trailing behind their goals. Notably, SECL has achieved 18.50% growth, ECL 16.70%, WCL 15.98%, and CCL 10.46% in terms of production.

From April to July 11 of the current financial year, Coal India has produced a total of 194.33 million tonnes of coal, which amounts to 98.27% of its production target of 197.75 million tonnes. Data shows that except for BCCL, NCL, WCL, and NEC, other subsidiaries of Coal India are falling short of their targets. In terms of coal dispatch, Coal India has sent out a total of 206.80 million tonnes against the target of 218.30 million tonnes, achieving 94.72% of the goal.
