The Ministry of Coal has reported a substantial upsurge in output from captive and commercial coal mines, reaching around 80 million tonnes (MT) between April 1 and November 20, 2023. This marks a noteworthy year-on-year growth of 23%. In a review meeting overseen by M Nagaraju, Additional Secretary and Nominated Authority at the Ministry of Coal, the performance and projections for the fiscal year 2023-24 were closely scrutinized. Emphasizing the significance of meeting production targets, Nagaraju highlighted the necessity for coal block allottees to take proactive measures to achieve the set production target for FY 2023-24. He stressed the swift operationalization of coal blocks at advanced stages of readiness, underlining their pivotal role in meeting the production goals. Anticipating a continued upward trajectory, the ministry foresees coal production to touch 145 MT by the conclusion of the fiscal year 2023-24, potentially resulting in a reduction in the country's coal imports.
