State-owned CIL reported a 12.6 percent year-on-year increase in coal production, reaching 51.4 million tonnes (MT) last month. In the same period last year, the PSU had produced 45.7 MT of coal, according to Coal India Ltd (CIL) in a BSE filing. Furthermore, the company's output for the April-September period increased by 11.3 percent, totaling 332.9 MT compared to 299 MT a year ago. In September, CIL's coal offtake also increased by 12.6 percent to 55.1 MT compared to 48.9 MT in the corresponding month of the previous fiscal year. In the April-September period, the offtake for the Maharatna firm also rose by 8.6 percent to 360.7 MT compared to 332 MT in the year-ago period. Coal offtake refers to the amount of dry fuel supplied from the coal pitheads. It's important to note that Coal India accounts for over 80 percent of domestic coal output.
