India's largest coal producer, Coal India Limited, is contributing to the construction of railway lines to facilitate faster coal transportation as part of the Chhattisgarh East-West Rail Corridor Phase III project.
This project covers a distance of 135 kilometers, stretching from Gevra Road to Pendra Road. It is being undertaken by Chhattisgarh East West Rail Limited (CEWRL) and is set to significantly enhance coal transportation capacity, enabling the movement of approximately 63 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of coal from a subsidiary of Coal India, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL).
CEWRL is a collaborative venture involving SECL, IRCON, and the Chhattisgarh state government. The project is scheduled to be completed and commissioned by December 2024.
