BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Coal and Power Limited (OCPL) achieved a significant milestone by producing eight million tonnes of coal in the fiscal year 2022-2023. The state government's sole coal mining company also reported a profit of approximately Rs 800 crore during this period. The company supplied six million tonnes of high-quality coal to Unit-III and IV of the Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC), contributing to a substantial increase in the plant load factor (PLF) due to consistent and uninterrupted coal supply.
During a coal crisis in the country, OCPL stepped up by providing coal to power plants in nearby areas and other states, ensuring uninterrupted power supply to the grid, particularly during the last summer season. The Manoharpur coal mines played a crucial role in this effort.
OCPL has been recognized as a 5-star mine for the second consecutive time and has been hailed as a model mine of the eastern region by the Ministry of Coal (MoC). Employing around 108 direct and 400 indirect workers, OCPL has also undertaken several corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at the development of underprivileged communities in remote areas of the state.
Looking ahead, OCPL has ambitious plans to acquire additional coal mines within the state to further boost coal production. This expansion is intended to meet the increasing coal demands of industries and contribute to the overall development of the region.
